NEW DELHI: A boy named 'Udai,' illustrated by Thrissur native Arun Gokul, has been selected as the official mascot of Aadhaar. The mascot will now be used across the country for the promotion of the Aadhaar card. The mascot was chosen through a national competition conducted on the MyGov platform to design an official symbol for Aadhaar. A total of 875 entries were received, and Arun Gokul's illustration was selected by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). The name “Udai” was suggested by Riya Jain from Bhopal.

Students, professionals, and designers from various fields took part in the competition to design and name the official mascot. Gokul won first place with his illustration of a boy wearing a cream-coloured T-shirt, red pants and shoes, and a scarf in the colours of the national flag around his neck. Idris Davaiwala from Pune secured second place, while Krishna Sharma from Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh won third place. In the naming contest, Idris Davaiwala from Pune finished second, and Maharaj Saran Chellapilla from Hyderabad secured third place.

The official mascot was unveiled by UIDAI chairman Neelkanth Mishra at a function held in Thiruvananthapuram. He said the competition was part of efforts to make Aadhaar services simpler and more accessible to the public.
