27-year-old woman commits suicide after killing toddler over marital dispute

HYDERABAD: In an unfortunate series of events, a woman committed suicide after poisoning her 10-month-old baby following a feud with her husband. Hyderabad native 27-year-old Sushma and her son Yashavardhan Reddy died in the incident. It is reported that Sushma's mother, Lalitha, also attempted suicide after seeing the two lying dead.

Chartered accountant Yashwant Reddy and Sushma were married four years ago. Family members told the police that the couple had not been on good terms for the past few days. Sushma reached her home yesterday. As soon as she arrived, she went to her room with the baby and closed the door. After poisoning the baby, she committed suicide. Lalitha thought the two were sleeping and did not disturb.

When Yashwanth Reddy returned from work at night, he noticed that the bedroom locked from the inside. When he broke down the door and entered, he found his wife and son lying dead. He immediately informed the police. Unable to bear the sight of her daughter and grandson lying dead, Lalitha attempted suicide. She was immediately shifted to the hospital.

Police registered a case in the incident, and an investigation is underway.
