THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Serious allegations were levelled in the suicide note against the estranged husband of the woman who ended her life along with her mother in Thiruvananthapuram’s Kamaleswaram on Thursday. SL Sajitha (54), the wife of the late retired Agriculture Deputy Director N Rajeev, and her daughter Greema S Raj (30), residents of Shanthi Gardens near Aryankuzhi in Kamleswaram, were found dead in the incident. It is said that the duo died after consuming cyanide. N Rajeev had died three months ago.

Poonthura CI said that a case of unnatural death was registered, and investigations are ongoing to find how the mother-daughter duo were able to procure cyanide.

The suicide note written by Sajitha mainly blames Greema's husband, Unnikrishnan, for their life falling apart.

From Sajitha’s suicide note:

“My daughter’s husband, BM Unnikrishnan, is the reason why we have reached such a decision. Their marriage lasted for just 25 days. After using her, he threw her away like a used cloth. My daughter cried and pleaded, but he doesn’t want her anymore. Strangely, he cited no reason for leaving my daughter. We had enough of the humiliation. We are tired of this.

We conducted the marriage by offering a dowry of 200 sovereign gold, a plot and a house. Unniskrishnan mentally tortured my daughter, saying the dowry was paltry and not enough.”

After writing the note, Sajitha forwarded the note to her relatives on WhatsApp. The relatives immediately sent the information to the office bearers of the residence association where they lived. When the councillor and locals arrived, the house was locked. Poonthura police were alarmed. When the police arrived and opened the house, they found the bodies of the two on the sofa in the hall on the ground floor. Two glasses and a note were found nearby.

Greema and Unnikrishnan, a native of Pazhanchira, married six years ago. The marriage lasted only 25 days. Following the death of Unnikrishnan's relative the previous day, Greema and her mother visited the house and had a conversation with him, which did not go as planned. Unnikrishnan harangued the duo, and Sajitha collapsed unconscious at the spot.

As per the latest report, Unnikrishnan was arrested at Mumbai airport while attempting to flee to a foreign country. The police had issued a lookout notice against him. Unnikrishnan has been charged with domestic violence and abetment to suicide. It is reported that the Poonthura police, which had registered the case, is heading to Mumbai to bring Unnikrishnan home.
