Allegation of misappropriation of martyr's fund: CPM likely to expel Kunjikrishnan; Kannur district secretariat to meet on Sunday

KANNUR: The CPM Kannur district secretariat is expected to decide on action against district committee member V. Kunjikrishnan, who accused MLA T I Madhusoodanan of irregularities, including in the martyr’s fund. The district committee, meeting tomorrow, will approve and announce the decision. There is a possibility of Kunjikrishnan being expelled from the party.

Kunjikrishnan has maintained that he will not leave the party and that he will continue to push for corrections. He had raised allegations of irregularities in both the election fund and the party office construction fund. Party leadership has claimed that his statements, coming just before elections, are creating a crisis and serving the opposition. There are also concerns that any action against him could give the impression that the party punishes whistleblowers. District secretary K K Ragesh said the allegations are baseless.

Today’s district secretariat meeting will include state secretary M V Govindan, central committee member E P Jayarajan, state secretariat member M V Jayarajan, and state committee member P Jayarajan.

Kunjikrishnan had also alleged that former state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, state secretary M V Govindan, and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan took the stand of protecting the guilty despite being aware of the irregularities. He raised the allegations as T I Madhusoodanan prepares to contest again in Payyannur.

Kunjikrishnan is expected to reveal further details in his upcoming book, 'Anikal Nethruthvathe Thiruthanam,' including allegations against other leaders related to land mafia connections and benami transactions.

Stayed away from party for several months
Kunjikrishnan had earlier been removed from the position of Payyannur area secretary after raising allegations of martyr’s fund irregularities and had stayed away from party activities for months. The state leadership intervened, requesting him to return, and included him in the district committee.

The party’s inquiry commission found that no irregularities had occurred and that there were discrepancies in the way figures were presented. MLA T I Madhusoodanan, who was in charge of the fund, was demoted from the secretariat to the district committee and later reinstated in the secretariat.

This is not the right way to correct mistakes: M V Jayarajan
State committee member M V Jayarajan said Kunjikrishnan’s actions are harming the party and that this is not the right way to correct mistakes. He compared the approach to “burning the house to catch a rat.” The party commission found that no one personally misappropriated funds. He also said that no one expects Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, M V Govindan, or Kodiyeri Balakrishnan to condone any wrongdoing.
