KOCHI: Communist Party workers in Kannur burst crackers, shouted slogans in front of CPM district committee member V Kunhikrishnan’s house. Kunhikrishnan was at odds with the leadership after he turned whistleblower, alleging massive misappropriation in Payyannur Dhanraj Martyrs Fund. Kunhikrishnan was not at home at the time of the incident.
The controversy was sparked by Kunhikrishnan's revelations that Payyannur MLA T I Madhusoodanan and his lackeys embezzled Rs 46 lakh from the Dhanraj Martyrs' Fund. Kunhikrishnan said that he had to respond publicly because the party leadership failed to take action despite providing evidence several times. Kunhikrishnan alleged that the party took a stand to protect the accused.

Kunhikrishnan said that the information of fraud came to light during an audit conducted when he was the Payyannur Area Committee Secretary, and that lakhs of rupees were embezzled from the 2011 election accounts. Kunhikrishnan had revealed in an interview that the party tried to silence him without taking any action despite filing a complaint with the state leadership, along with evidence, including bank statements. CPM supporters are continuing to launch a fierce attack against Kunhikrishnan on social media.
Meanwhile, CPM will examine whether party insiders are helping Kunhikrishnan. The district secretariat expressed its suspicion over the old allegation surfacing back in the backdrop of the upcoming elections.
