THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state continues to reel under intense heat, with a yellow alert issued in 12 districts, except Wayanad and Idukki. The temperature in Kerala is around 36 degrees Celsius, but higher levels of heat are being felt in urban areas and public spaces. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rainfall in the coming days, which is expected to bring relief from the scorching conditions. Thunderstorms accompanied by rain are likely across Kerala until Monday, the IMD said.
The weather department has also warned of isolated heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms and strong winds, with speeds reaching 30 to 40 kmph. Similar weather conditions are expected from tomorrow through Monday, with stronger winds likely on Saturday and Sunday.
Due to the ongoing heatwave, authorities had already issued precautionary guidelines. People have been advised to avoid direct exposure to sunlight between 11 am and 3 pm. Those working outdoors have been asked to strictly follow these instructions. With the possibility of thunderstorms, a lightning alert has also been issued. Authorities have warned that lightning may not always be visible and people should not ignore safety precautions.
