Actor Mohanlal expressed his condolences on the death of Confident Group Chairman C J Roy, who committed suicide by shooting himself. The actor via a Facebook post said their relationship was beyond friendship and that he still finds it hard to believe the loss.
‘It is hard to believe the demise of my dear friend C J Roy. I stand with the family at this moment of immense grief. It was a bond beyond friendship. He will always be remembered with love and warmth,’ penned Mohanlal.
Roy was found dead during an income tax raid. His brother, C J Babu, alleged that mental harassment by income tax officials led him to take the drastic step. C J Roy, alias Chiriyankandath Joseph Roy, is the son of Joseph and Thresya from Guruvayur. After completing his primary education in Bengaluru, he pursued higher studies in Paris. He later worked as a planning manager at the multinational company HP before forming the Confident Group in 2005. Over two decades, the company grew into an enterprise with assets exceeding Rs 8,000 crore.
Roy produced more than ten films in Malayalam and Kannada. He entered film production with the Mohanlal-starrer Casanova. His most recently produced film was scheduled for release on the very day he committed suicide. C J Roy was also a co-producer of Anomie, slated for release on February 6. Following Casanova, he produced Malayalam films such as Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea, Mei Hoom Moosa starring Suresh Gopi, and Identity.
