NEW DELHI: Lok Sabha Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi finally reacted to the Modi government's third budget. Rahul's response was on the social media platform X. Rahul Gandhi accused Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman of turning a blind eye to India's real crises and said that the budget ignored unemployed youth and investors who are withdrawing capital.
"Youth without jobs. Falling manufacturing. Investors pulling out capital. Household savings plummeting. Farmers in distress. Looming global shocks -- all ignored. A Budget that refuses course correction, blind to India’s real crises," Gandhi said in a post on X.
Rahul Gandhi had refrained from commenting on the Modi government's third budget. 'I will speak tomorrow, using the platform provided by Parliament,' the Congress leader told reporters Sunday. Rahul was accompanied by his sister and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi, who also did not respond to media inquiries. Congress MP Jairam Ramesh criticised the budget as "non-transparent," stating that it provided no clarity regarding budgetary allocations for key programs and schemes.
During the budget speech, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had announced that India has achieved significant economic growth and stability. She also emphasised that poverty has been eradicated in the country. Kerala received none of the allocations it anticipated in the budget, including the AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences). Additionally, the state was notably absent from the announcement regarding the seven high-speed railway corridors. While several South Indian cities, such as Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad, were included in this plan, cities in Kerala were overlooked.
