KOLLAM: A complaint has been filed after a headmistress was allegedly denied entry into her school for wearing a churidar. The incident occurred at Easwaravilasam School in Neduvathoor, Kottarakkara. According to reports, the school’s security staff stopped headmistress Sindhu at the gate, claiming he was acting on the instructions of the school manager. However, school manager Suresh Kumar later denied issuing any such directive.
The headmistress arrived at the school on Wednesday morning after purchasing items, including provisions for the students’ midday meal. After being stopped by the security staff, she began a sit-in protest in front of the school gate. She was allowed to enter the school only after the Kottarakkara police arrived at the spot.
Reports further state that in recent days, the school manager had visited the office room and repeatedly instructed the headmistress to wear a saree to school and avoid wearing churidar. Meanwhile, visuals of the headmistress staging a protest outside the school have surfaced.
It must be noted that government orders issued in 2014 and 2021 clearly state that teachers are permitted to wear any decent and comfortable attire. The orders also specify that wearing a saree is not mandatory.
