Elephant tramples mahout to death at Kottur Elephant Rehabilitation Centre

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An elephant trampled a mahout to death at the Kappukad Elephant Rehabilitation Centre in Kottur. The dead is Vishnu (28) of Vishnu Bhavan, Chavadinada Thaivilakam at Venganoor in Balaramapuram. The tragic incident happened Thursday morning when he was bathing the elephant. The nine-year-old elephant suddenly attacked Vishnu and trampled him in the water.

The people nearby tried to save Vishnu, but to no avail. He had been working as a mahout in the Kappukad Elephant Rehabilitation Centre since 2016. The body was shifted to the Aryanad Government Hospital for further proceedings. He leaves behind his father Biju, mother Kala and sister Anjana.
