NEW DELHI: A verbal altercation between the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and a Union Minister led to a controversy in front of the Parliament gate. It started when Union Minister and former Congress leader Ravneet Singh Bittu was called a traitor by Leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi. In response, Bittu called Rahul an 'enemy of the nation'. Following the controversy, BJP workers marched to the Congress headquarters in Delhi, accusing Rahul of insulting the Sikh community.
The incident took place during the opposition protest in front of the Makar Dwar gate of Parliament on Wednesday morning. Rahul was talking to the MPs who were protesting on the steps. Minister Ravneet Bittu, who came there, looked at the Congress MPs and sardonically said, 'It seems like they have won the Kargil war'. Rahul immediately responded, 'Here comes a traitor. Look at that face...'. Saying this, Rahul came forward to shake hands, but Ravneet ignored it. Immediately, Rahul said, 'Hello brother, my traitor friend, don't worry, you will come back.' Bittu turned around and called Rahul 'enemy of the country' and walked away.
“Rahul's comment is a continuation of the Congress's hostility towards the Sikh community, including the violence at the Golden Temple. He is very fit, but I am also strong. But this is not what we do in politics. We should speak respectfully in parliamentary language. Rahul's hooliganism has been exposed.” Said Ravneet Bittu.
“The insult against Ravneet, son of martyred former Chief Minister Beant Singh, is an insult to the entire Sikh community. Rahul Gandhi may have many friends who are traitors to the country. Ravneet is certainly not one of them,” said Union Minister Hardeep Puri.
