TIRUCHIRAPPALLI: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K Selvaperunthagai has said ahead of the Tamil Nadu assembly elections that there are no problems in the DMK-Congress alliance. He said that the alliance is progressing well and the seat-sharing talks are fruitful. Selvaperunthagai clarified the party's stand speaking to the media in Tiruchirappalli yesterday.
'Detailed discussions have been held with local leaders regarding the division of constituencies. The recommendations have been submitted to the high command. There is no doubt that the DMK will give the seats demanded by the Congress. Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge will take the final decision on the seats after considering the opinions of the Tamil Nadu unit,' Selvaperunthagai said.
As the election heats up, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin also came forward with clear instructions to the DMK cadres. He was speaking to the youth wing office bearers of the southern region. 'We should work to win 200 seats in the upcoming assembly elections. Even families who have not voted yet should be kept on board through campaigning. India is a union of states. Federalism should be protected. The fight for state autonomy, which is the basic principle of DMK, will continue. The BJP is trying to centralise power in the country, and the Centre's move is to weaken the parties in the state,' he alleged. Stalin also called for the NDA alliance to be reduced to zero seats in the upcoming elections. 'This is a fight between Tamil Nadu and the NDA. The victory in the last Lok Sabha elections should be repeated in the Assembly too,' says M.K. Stalin. Assembly elections are expected to be held in Tamil Nadu by the middle of this year. The DMK won 133 seats and the Congress 18 seats in the 234-member assembly in the 2021 elections.
