Vijayakumari bids adieu after saving five lives

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: S. Vijayakumari, who fainted to death while riding in a scooter, will now live on through five people. The family of Panangode native S. Vijayakumari (54) gave consent to donate her organs to five people. The accident took place on the morning of the 7th. Vijayakumari, an employee of the Palode Resort, was on her way to work on a scooter, pillion riding with her son Abhijith, when she fell on the road.

She was immediately taken to a private hospital, but was confirmed brain dead the other day. Subsequently, her husband Karunakaran Nair and children K.J. Abhijith and K.J. Krishnendu gave their consent for organ donation.

The liver, kidneys and corneas were donated. One kidney was donated to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, another kidney and liver to KIMS Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram, and the corneas to the Thiruvananthapuram Regional Institute of Ophthalmology. The organ donation was coordinated under the leadership of K-Sotto.
