CHENNAI: Actress Trisha has responded to the controversial remark made by Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran linking her with TVK president and actor Vijay. Nagendran had said that if Vijay wants to enter politics seriously, he should first “come out of Trisha’s house.” The remark triggered widespread criticism and debate. Following the controversy, Trisha issued a legal statement through her lawyer, posting a note on social media with the caption: “Disrespect should and always will be called out.”

Full statement issued on behalf of Trisha

Under the instructions from my client, Ms Trisha Krishnan, a renowned Indian film actress, I am issuing this communique to place on record the following:

1. This is with reference to the distasteful comment about my client, which is circulating in the media.

2. My client never expected that such distasteful and inappropriate remark would be made by a person holding a high stature in the State's political space.

3. My client makes it very clear that she is not affiliated with any political party neither does she intend to be. Further, just as my client had continuously maintained in the past, she has always taken a neutral stand when it comes to politics.

4. My client wishes to be defined only by her craft and not by any alleged political alignment. Further and most importantly, it is common saying that personal lives should never be made the subject of public commentary or discourse, and it is expected that persons holding high positions maintain responsibility and equanimity in public discourse.

5. It is requested that my client's name not be drawn into matters that do not concern her.

Nagendran made the controversial remark while responding to Vijay’s claim that his party, TVK, is the only real opponent of the DMK.

“If Vijay wants to enter politics, he should first come out of Trisha’s house. He should show love to his own family at least. He has no experience, poor man. Only if he comes out after leaving Trisha will things move forward. He should listen to the elders. He should speak respectfully about movements led by strong leaders. A person who cannot catch a hen on the terrace cannot climb to the sky and reach Vaikuntha,” Nagendran said.

Though there was strong backlash against the statement, Nagendran reportedly refused to withdraw his remarks.
