KOCHI: The surgical instrument that was forgotten in Usha Joseph's stomach had reportedly penetrated her bladder. The surgical instrument, called 'Mosquito Artery Forceps', which looks like scissors, was removed from Usha's stomach. Its three-centimeter tip had reached inside her urinary bladder. The team of doctors who led the surgery believes that this may be the reason for the blood in her urine. Doctors also say that the calcium content in the urine had accumulated at the tip of the instrument and formed a stone-like structure.

The surgical instrument was recovered from Usha's stomach during a surgery performed at Amrita Hospital in Kochi on Sunday. The instrument was later handed over to the Ambalappuzha DySP, who is investigating the case. The forceps were left in Usha's stomach five years ago during a surgery at Vandanam Medical College in Alappuzha to remove a uterine fibroid. She had recently sought treatment after experiencing severe abdominal pain. The forceps were found in her stomach when an X-ray was taken on suspicion of urinary stones.
