Following a meeting held with the college authorities, veterinary council members, the student committee, animal welfare organisation representatives, Ambili Purackal from Daya, Preeti Sreevalsan from Paws Thrissur, Niby Thomas from Saira Sanctuary and Sally Varma, Abhijith Antony decided to end the hunger strike that was ongoing for the past seven days concerning the issue of the community dogs at Mannuthy Veterinary College.

The fine that was imposed in the hostel for petting and feeding the dogs has been revoked by the management. It was also mentioned that no student has so far been fined with that order. The college authorities and the students also assured that the dogs on campus will not face any hardship going forward and the Blue Cross society inside the campus will continue to take care of their safety and health.

Abhijith Antony:

"This hunger strike is the first of its kind in Kerala’s animal welfare movement. Animal lovers from across the country stood in solidarity. Thank you to everyone who supported this cause and came from far and wide to lend their voice. My heartfelt thanks to each of them. Thank you to all members of People For Animals (PFA), WEFAA and my dear friend Muhammad Faizal for all the support.

While this protest concluded yesterday, such actions raise serious constitutional concerns. We will continue to challenge any such measures through appropriate legal means with the help of VOKAL. In that sense, this is only the beginning."
