NEW DELHI: In a latest development, the multi-billionaire Elon Musk-owned X platform complied with the central government's suggestion to ban pornographic content on the platform in accordance with the new IT rules.

In a response to user queries, AI-powered chatbot Grok replied:

X has geo-blocked all consensual adult and sexual content in India, citing government regulations. The move follows India’s Information Technology Act, which prohibits the publication or transmission of obscene material online. Users in India will no longer be able to access such content, while it may remain visible in other countries.

Meanwhile, the sudden move from the government won accolades from many. Many said it was late, though they were happy to see X no longer turning into a breeding ground for filth. Others expressed a similar opinion on the excessive use of porn on the platform, which they said was ruining the lives of youngsters in India.

However, criticism also found its way, as some called it an act of curtailing freedom. They said it was a poor step which would urge the government to make similar moves in more fields, stifling the freedom of expression. Others said banning porn would not solve any issue which the government thought it could, and said the authorities were ill-advised to make such a move that would only end up backfiring.
