West Bengal Governor Dr C V Ananda Bose resigns; Arlekar given additonal charge of Tamil Nadu

KOLKATA: West Bengal Governor Dr C V Ananda Bose tendered his resignation after three and a half years in the post. Ananda Bose did not specify the reason for leaving the post in his resignation letter to the President. Ananda Bose has been serving as the Governor of West Bengal since November 2022. There are also reports that he will enter the election fray as the assembly elections are approaching in Bengal and Kerala.

Retired IAS officer and writer Ananda Bose is a native of Mannanam, Kottayam. Ananda Bose told a news agency that he had spent enough time as Governor and has now decided to resign. The current governor of Tamil Nadu, R.N. Ravi, will be appointed as the governor of West Bengal. Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that Ananda Bose's resignation was shocking and alleged that it was the central government that forced him to the decision.

Governors reshuffled in several states

The President has issued orders appointing and transferring governors in several states after C V Ananda Bose resigned from the post of West Bengal Governor.

R N Ravi, who was serving as the Governor of Tamil Nadu, has been appointed as the new Governor of West Bengal. The additional charge of Tamil Nadu Governor has been given to Rajendra Arlekar, who is currently the Governor of Kerala. Former Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan has also been removed from the post of Governor of Bihar. Retired Lieutenant General Syed Ata Hasnain has been appointed as the new Governor of Bihar. Former Indian diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu has been appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has been transferred as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.

Jishnu Dev Varma, who was serving as the Governor of Telangana, has been appointed as the Governor of Maharashtra. Nandakishore Yadav has been appointed as the Governor of Nagaland.

Former Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta, who resigned earlier, has been appointed as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh. The current Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla has been appointed as the new Governor of Telangana. No new responsibility has been assigned yet to Ananda Bose after his resignation.
