THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has publicly apologized to actor Mammootty following a wave of cyber attacks against the star. The controversy began after the actor visited a rehabilitation township for landslide survivors in Wayanad.

During his visit, a video emerged showing Mammootty asking CPM Wayanad District Secretary K. Rafeeq to step aside. The actor mentioned that he wanted to keep his visit personal and avoid the impression that it was a party-sponsored event. This brief, private conversation was caught on camera and spread across social media.

The video sparked intense criticism and cyber abuse directed at the actor by some online groups. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan addressed the incident today and expressed regret for the situation.

The Chief Minister stated that Mammootty is a great actor who cares deeply for the welfare of Kerala. He emphasised that the actor’s actions were well-intentioned and that he should not have been insulted. Pinarayi Vijayan further remarked that it was unfortunate that a private conversation was turned into a public controversy.

The Chief Minister concluded his statement by offering a formal apology for the mental distress caused to the actor.
