KOLLAM: A notorious gangster was hacked to death in full public glare in Karunagappally on Saturday. Aluva Athul, the first accused in the murder of gangster Gym Santhosh, died in the attack. The incident happened when Athul came out of the station on bail. CCTV footage of the incident has also been released. The attack took place near Puthiyakavu in Karunagappally.

A car with a gang of five people rammed into the car travelled by Athul, pushing the vehicle to fall into a drain. The members of the gang quickly got out of the car and attacked Athul, who was still inside the car. The police have launched an investigation into the incident. Gang rivalry is blamed for the incident. Initial information from the police indicates that the car used by the accused was not of Kerala registration.

Gang leader Santhosh, nicknamed Gym Santhosh, was murdered by Aluva Athul and his gang on March 27 last year. On the morning of the incident, the gang arrived at Santhosh's house in a car and attacked him by throwing a bomb at his house. Athul used a club to break Santhosh’s legs. Santhosh's mother was also at home at the time of the incident. Athul, who went into hiding after committing the crime, was caught in Thiruvallur, Tamil Nadu, 21 days later. The police concluded the attack as a result of a long-standing feud between two gangs based in Karunagappally and Ochira.
