
NEW DELHI: The Congress is set to announce the second phase of its candidates list for the assembly elections today. K Sudhakaran MP will not contest in Kannur. Instead, former mayor T O Mohanan will be the candidate. There is no seat for Adoor Prakash also. Satheesh Kochuparambil is likely to be the candidate in Konni. Mohammed Shiyas will contest in Kochi.
A final decision was taken after Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge is against MPs contesting the assembly polls. Kharge has decided that only two MPs from Kerala cannot be given a concession.
Reports say that Sudheer Sha Palode will contest in Vamanapuram. N Shaktan will face polls in Neyyattinkara and K S Sabarinath in Nemom. Abin Varkey will contest in Aranmula, Pazhakulam Madhu in Ranni, Roy K Paulose in Idukki and Nattakam Suresh in Ettumanoor.
Congress leaders said they would announce the candidates for all seats by Wednesday evening. However, Rahul Gandhi intervened after differences of opinion broke out in the meeting which ended this morning. In addition to the 55 seats announced the previous day, 40 seats were discussed. KPCC President Sunny Joseph told media that no one has been decided for the disputed constituencies and discussions are continuing on four to five seats.
