THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The BJP announced Karamana Jayan as the NDA candidate for the Thiruvananthapuram Central constituency. The BJP decided to field Karamana Jayan without considering RJD state leader and former minister Surendran Pillai, who quit the LDF. After discussions within the party regarding the selection of the candidate, Karamana Jayan was selected considering his organizational experience.

Meantime, the LDF candidate for the constituency has not been announced yet. There is information that there is confusion within the Left Front regarding the nomination of candidates. Former MLA Antony Raju cannot contest as he was disqualified in the evidence tampering case. The present crisis is due to the unwillingness of the Democratic Kerala Congress to officially announce a replacement candidate. The local leadership is concerned that the delay in the nomination will affect the election campaign.
