'What is left to fear?'; woman accuses CPM, police of attempting to sabotage sexual exploitation case against CPM leader

RANNI: A woman has alleged that both the police and the CPM are trying to sabotage her complaint against a local party leader who sexually abused her. The complaint was filed against Alan Mathew, an area committee member of the CPM in Ranni, Pathanamthitta. The woman alleged that he sexually exploited her on the promise of marriage. She told a media outlet that although a case was eventually registered, there were attempts by both the police and CPM leadership to weaken the case.

“The police ignored even the complaint submitted through the SP. Everything was done as per the party's instructions. A case was registered only after I attempted suicide and was admitted to the medical college. Even party leaders had earlier intervened and assured that the marriage would take place. But when Alan Mathew backed out, no one stepped in,” she said.

The woman further alleged that a former MLA had also intervened in the matter. According to her, party members had assured that the marriage would be conducted, and preparations for registration had begun. During this period, she suffered a miscarriage. She claimed that following this, Alan Mathew withdrew from the marriage, reportedly stating that he had nothing left to fear.

She said she received no justice at any stage and that even after seeking police assistance following his withdrawal, she did not receive adequate support. She later approached the District Collector seeking intervention. Meanwhile, local CPM leadership stated that the party had distanced itself from Alan Mathew soon after the allegations surfaced.
