THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Electoral Officer Rathan U Kelkar explained the reason behind the removal of Opposition leader VD Satheesan's interview from Facebook. Kelkar said that the interview was removed from social media due to an error by Meta and clarified that the police had only asked the company to remove comments that appeared for the video.
“Many of the comments were vile and derogatory. Police thus had to intervene. When asked to remove the comments, they removed the video itself. The police asked for the portion of the interview to be restored. This was an error.
There is no exact count of the videos removed yet. Cyber policing is underway. There is a system to resolve the issue if anyone comes with a complaint against the police action. The police are working as per the rules. If there is a violation of the code of conduct, the police can intervene.” Rathan Kelkar said that the commission has not given any specific instructions in this regard.
