Assembly polls: Home voting to begin in Kerala today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The procedures for home voting for citizens aged 85 and above and differently-abled persons in the assembly elections will begin today. This system will be in place for six days from April 4. Home voting is being conducted by a mobile polling team.

A team comprising a polling officer, two assistants, a micro observer, a videographer and a police officer will go to the houses for voting. A list of those who will register their home votes has been prepared. Chief Electoral Officer Dr Rathan U Kelkar reviewed the preparations online with the district collectors.

The collectors informed that a meeting of political parties was held regarding home voting, and all the preparations as directed by the Central Election Commission have been completed.

There are 1,45,592 senior citizens and 62,220 differently-abled voters on the list for home voting across the state. 2,468 teams have been formed to reach their homes and get them to vote. The district-wise figures of people above the age of 85 are as follows: Thiruvananthapuram-14672, Kollam-10855, Pathanamthitta-9341, Alappuzha-11505, Kottayam-12020, Idukki-4011, Ernakulam-14117, Thrissur-13745, Palakkad-11642, Malappuram-10975, Kozhikode-12260, Wayanad-3036, Kannur-14132, Kasaragod-3281.

The number of differently-abled voters is as follows: Thiruvananthapuram-6791, Kollam-4057, Pathanamthitta-1867, Alappuzha-6236, Kottayam-4194, Idukki-1586, Ernakulam-4424, Thrissur-6505, Palakkad-2938, Malappuram-6746, Kozhikode-6788, Wayanad-1403, Kannur-5153, and Kasaragod-3532.
