WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has issued a warning to countries, including the United Kingdom, for refusing to support the war against Iran. Amid a fuel crisis caused by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, Trump said that affected countries should take control of the strait to ensure oil supply. In a post on Truth Social, he said countries must either buy fuel from the US or “find the courage” to take control of Hormuz themselves.
He added that countries need to learn to fight on their own and warned that the US may no longer help those who did not support it. Trump also claimed that Iran has been largely destroyed and that the most difficult part of the conflict is over. “Take your own oil,” he added.
The Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route through which more than 20% of the world’s oil and gas supply passes, has been disrupted following joint US-Israel attacks on Iran on February 28 and subsequent Iranian strikes.
