THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan took the capital district by storm today, delivering a series of powerful speeches that revisited Kerala’s history of overcoming adversity. Traversing four key constituencies, the CM used the platform to highlight the government’s comprehensive development and crisis management initiatives.
The Chief Minister’s itinerary focused on high-stakes battlegrounds where the competition is particularly fierce. His day began in Aruvikkara, followed by afternoon rallies in Vattiyoorkavu, Nemom, and Kazhakoottam. At every stop, his central theme was the state's resilience in the face of unprecedented challenges, specifically recalling the impact of Cyclone Ockhi, the Nipah outbreak, the Great Floods, and the COVID-19 pandemic.
During his addresses, the Chief Minister did not mince words regarding the challenges of federal cooperation. He argued that while the state faced enough disasters to cause any land to collapse, the Central Government washed its hands of the crisis and even turned away those who came to provide international assistance. He further criticised the UDF and Congress for failing to speak up against the Centre's stance during these periods of hardship.
The Chief Minister credited the state’s survival and subsequent growth entirely to the unity of the people, while emphasising that the work is far from over.
A recurring point in his speeches was the maintenance of social order. He noted that Kerala has remained free from communal riots for the last decade, attributing this to a conscious political effort. He told supporters that those who seek to divide the state must be kept at a distance and that those who threaten harmony should never be encouraged.
Despite the scorching heat, the rallies saw significant turnouts. A massive crowd gathered in Aryanadu to greet him in the morning, while large numbers of women and elderly supporters waited at the Peroorkada junction well into the evening. In Nemom, where the LDF is engaged in a high-profile battle against the BJP, the campaign organised a major program at Ambalathara that drew a significant crowd from the coastal belts. The day concluded with an equally enthusiastic welcome in Kazhakoottam.
The day’s events followed a detailed morning press conference at the AKG Centre, setting a determined tone for the LDF’s final campaign push in the capital.
