PATHANAMTHITA: The crowd cheered loudly when Rahul Gandhi sang the opening lines of the controversial song “Swarnam Kattavan Aarappa…” during a public meeting in Pathanamthitta as part of his election campaign.

Speaking at the event, Rahul Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of trying to protect CPM leaders in the Sabarimala gold theft case.

"Although the Prime Minister often speaks about religion and temples, he remained silent on the Sabarimala gold theft issue during his recent visit to Kerala. Both the BJP and the LDF are on the same side in the gold theft case. Modi avoided speaking about the issue to protect the interests of the LDF," Rahul said.

Rahul Gandhi, who visited Pathanamthitta district for campaigning, also addressed a gathering in Adoor. He said that if the UDF comes to power in Kerala, those involved in the gold theft case will be punished.

He further alleged that the BJP wants the LDF to remain in power in Kerala and that the party’s main aim at the national level is to weaken the Congress. Rahul also claimed that just as US President Donald Trump controls Modi, the Prime Minister is now controlling Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Several leaders, including MPs Kodikunnil Suresh, Adoor Prakash, and Anto Antony, along with candidates C.V. Shanthakumar and Eby Kuriakose, spoke at the event. AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal and former Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala were also present.
