Woman’s organs to give new lease of life to five in Kerala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The family of a woman of Thiruvananthapuram, declared brain dead, consented to donate her organs, giving a new lease of life to five people. The organs of Jayi Jayakumar (35) of Kilimanoor are being donated. Her five organs including heart are being donated. Her heart will be taken to Lisie Hospital in Ernakulam from Thiruvananthapuram KIMS Hospital via Air Ambulance. She was admitted to KIMS Hospital on April 2. She was declared brain dead the other day while undergoing treatment.

Krishnalal of Thiruvananthapuram, who was declared brain dead after a car accident recently had donated six of his organs, including heart. Apart from heart, two kidneys, a liver and two corneas were donated. One kidney was donated to Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College, one kidney and liver to KIMS Hospital and two corneas to Thiruvananthapuram Regional Ophthalmology.


Krishnalal, a welding worker, was hit by a car in front of Krishi Bhavan near Oruvathilkotta when he was on his way to the shop to buy goods on his bicycle at around 9 pm on April 1.


Krishnalal, who was seriously injured, was admitted to the KIMS Hospital but was confirmed brain dead on April 4. His family members then agreed to donate his organs.
