BENGALURU: The initial postmortem report regarding the death of 15-year-old Sreenanda indicates no immediate signs of foul play, identifying the primary cause of death as a severe injury to the right side of the head. While the body sustained injuries and multiple broken bones, the report concludes these were caused by the fatal fall. The inquest report similarly stated that nothing unusual was found. Investigators noted that the child's clothing was likely torn as she struck tree branches during the descent.
Sreenanda, the daughter of Ramesh Gopalan and Rohini from Kadampazhipuram, Palakkad, went missing on Tuesday evening near the Manikyadhara waterfalls viewpoint in Chikmagalur. She was part of a 40-member tour group that had arrived in Karnataka from Kerala the previous Saturday. Following a three-day search involving the police, forest department, and disaster management teams, her body was discovered yesterday at a depth of 1,500 feet in Harshana Guppa, near Baba Budan giri.
Sreenanda’s relatives returned home with her body last night, and the funeral is held today. Despite the initial findings, the family has maintained that there is a mystery surrounding the disappearance. Consequently, the SOCO team is continuing a detailed forensic investigation at the site where the body was found, conducted in the presence of Sreenanda's father. Chikmagalur SP Jitendra Dayama stated that the family's allegations will be thoroughly investigated and no possibilities will be ruled out at this stage.
