THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that the unfortunate death of R L Nithin Raj, a first-year student at the Anjarakandy Dental College, is a shock to the conscience of Kerala.
“The criminal silence shown by the state government on this issue is extremely objectionable. The student committed suicide after facing abuse in the name of caste and colour. The Pinarayi government, which always boasts about the Renaissance, is turning a blind eye to such atrocities faced by the backward classes.
Such incidents are recurring in Kerala. It has not been long since the death of Siddharthan, a student of Pookode Veterinary University. The government is taking the initiative to cover up the insolence shown by the managements of such institutions under the shadow of power. The government should prepare to conduct an impartial investigation into the caste abuses faced by Nithin Raj. It is not enough to just suspend two teachers. All those responsible must be found and given appropriate punishment.
Nithin Raj's death is the latest example of the continuous discrimination and harassment against Dalit and backward class students in Kerala. It is a disgrace to Literate Kerala that a student has to face caste abuses and mental torture in college.
Some people are on the hunt to find new reasons for Nithin’s death. They want to destroy this case. A high-level investigation is essential to ensure justice for Nitin Raj's family. This is not just a mere suicide case." Rajeev Chandrasekhar demanded that those responsible for Nithin Raj's death be brought to justice, irrespective of their status. The state president also warned that if the police and the government continue to protect the criminals, the BJP will lead a strong popular movement.
