KANNUR: S K Ram, who is facing allegations in the case related to the death of student Nithin Raj at Anjarakandy Dental College, will no longer continue as a faculty member. The college management has decided in a meeting to remove Ram, who is the Head of the Oral Pathology Department. The formal procedures are underway, and he is expected to be dismissed soon. However, the decision has not yet been officially announced.
Ram has been accused of caste-based harassment, which allegedly pushed Nithin towards death. There had been several complaints against him even before the incident. After Nithin’s death, his classmates also raised serious allegations against Ram.
Regarding Associate Professor Dr Sangeetha Nambiar, who is also accused in the case, the management has decided to take further action only after the investigation is completed. Both teachers are currently under suspension.
The police have registered a case against both, including charges of caste abuse and abetment to suicide. They are currently absconding. Although a search is ongoing, the investigation team plans to make arrests only after collecting sufficient evidence, which may delay the process. There are also indications that both may seek anticipatory bail.
The Health University has appointed a four-member commission to investigate Nithin’s death. Action will be taken against the accused teachers based on the commission’s report.
Nithin seen leaving principal's office in tears
Investigators have found crucial evidence related to the case. CCTV footage shows Nithin leaving the principal’s office in tears just minutes before his death. Shortly after, he died by suicide. It is reported that Nithin had taken a loan from a loan app, and a teacher named Latha had received threatening messages related to it. Nithin was called to the office regarding this issue. He was allegedly pressured to contact the loan app team and remove the teacher’s phone number. His phone was taken away. Nithin reportedly told them that he had not given the teacher’s number to the loan app, but had instead provided the contact details of his parents and sister. Police are investigating who all were present in the principal’s office at that time.
It is believed that Nithin was mentally distressed due to multiple factors: caste-based harassment, threats from loan app agents, and the questioning inside the college. Police suspect that this mental pressure may have led him to take his own life.
