KANNUR: Anjarakandy Dental College expelled Dr M.K. Ram, the department head accused in the death of BDS student Nithin Raj. The college management announced this at a parents' meeting held on Thursday. The management's action comes amid ongoing student protests against the teacher. Earlier, Dr Ram was suspended from the college. However, the students were adamant in their demand to expel him from the college.

Dr M.K. Ram is the head of the oral pathology department of the college. A case was registered against Ram under sections of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and other sections in connection with Nithin Raj's death. Even after six days of Nithin's death, the accused professor is at large, which led to strong protests by students in front of the college this morning. The students took off their white coats in a mark of protest against the professor. House surgeons also joined the protest by leaving their duties.
