KAYAMKULAM: A new twist has emerged in the case where businessman Sinil Sabad was accused of harassing a young woman who met with a road accident. According to the police, the woman’s latest statement does not match her earlier allegations. This has raised suspicion of possible external influence in the case.
The accident happened around 10:30 pm on March 3. The woman first sought treatment at 10:36 pm and took an outpatient (OP) ticket. At that time, she did not raise any allegations. Later, at 12:45 am, she took another OP ticket and reported the harassment. Police suspect that external interference may have occurred during this time.
The woman explained that she revealed the harassment while in the X-ray room, and a new OP ticket was taken to officially record the complaint. However, in her latest statement given to Kayamkulam DySP Binu Kumar at the hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, there are contradictions compared to her earlier version.
In her new statement, she said that Sinil’s hands touched her private parts three times while helping her into an autorickshaw. She denied her earlier claim that he had inserted his hand inside her clothes. The Alappuzha Chief Judicial Magistrate Court has directed the Mavelikkara First Class Magistrate Court to record the woman’s confidential statement.
Earlier, the woman had alleged that a doctor and an X-ray technician advised her to file a complaint after seeing her injuries. However, both the doctor and the technician have told police that they did not give such advice.
Woman undergoes medical examination
Meanwhile, the woman underwent a medical examination yesterday by a gynaecologist at Kayamkulam Government Hospital. DySP Binu Kumar will record the doctor’s statement. The investigation has also been expanded to examine CCTV footage from the hospital and the police station to identify a person, believed to be a friend of Sinil, who allegedly offered money to the woman.
