NEW DELHI: Actor turned politician Suresh Gopi called on BJP president Amit Shah yesterday. The actor reached Delhi from his busy shooting schedule. It is heard that he will either be made a union minister or the state chief of the party. There were reports that the actor is being considered for the post of party state chief after P S Sreedharan Pillai was appointed as the Governor of Mizoram. Reports say Amit Shah is keen in bringing the actor to the top level. But the leaders of Kerala have not paid much attention to these speculations. However, the party central leadership had summoned the actor to New Delhi. Soon after the actor held talks with Amit Shah, there were speculations that the actor will be offered a plum post.
It is heard that the union cabinet will be expanded just before the winter session in Parliament. It is heard that there is a move to induct the actor in to the cabinet and was summoned to inform about it. Suresh Gopi is presently a member of the Rajya Sabha. The actor was summoned to Delhi to know his opinion in appointing him as the party chief. The actor has not revealed the details of his Delhi visit. The actor was not interested in contesting the last Lok Sabha elections, but Amit Shah later picked him up for Thrissur. His close relation with the Prime Minister is also a favourable factor.
Many from the party are eyeing the key post of party chief. It is heard that K Surendran, close to Union Minister V Muraleedharan, will head the party in Kerala or it can be M T Ramesh supported by the Krishnadas faction. However, the party will take a final decision only as per the interests of the RSS. Kummanam Rajashekaran was made party chief like that. It is believed that RSS may not object the name of K Surendran, who led the Sabarimala agitation.
