KOZHIKODE: CPM Kozhikode district secretary P Mohanan on Monday said that the party will not provide legal aid to the students who were arrested for alleged Maoist links. According to him, while the party disagrees with charging UAPA against the students, it does not plan to provide any legal assistance to them.

Mohanan also added that the party would investigate whether the students have a connection with any forbidden organisations."Though the party strongly opposes charging UAPA against the students, it will not provide any legal aid to them. The family members should take care of such things," he said.

Earlier, the Kozhikode South area committee had demanded that the party should provide legal aid to the students. According to the local leadership, UAPA should not be charged against those who happened to possess pamphlets or notices. It also accused the police of misusing the UAPA law.
