Shocking the cinema world, Tamil actor Vijay was taken into custody by Income Tax officers on Friday from a shooting location, based on a complaint that he committed irregularity in the financial dealings with the producers of the film Bigil. He had been questioned till the night.
But now, the raid is being criticised and interpreted as the revenge taken by the Central government against Vijay for protesting against its policies through his films. BJP leader Sadeep Warrier had recently made a comment linking Income Tax to those Malayalam stars who took part in the protest against CAA in Kochi.
His Facebook comment that those who pay income tax promptly need not be scared was widely debated. However, the BJP had disowned the statement. Now following Vijay’s arrest, he came up with another post.
FB post (English Translation)
“Income Tax is in effect all over India. Nevertheless, if I-T officers comes to Malayalam cine artistes' houses for raids, they can just hound them away, saying that this is Kerala ruled by Pinarayi. The officials will take to their heels.”
