On the occasion of Valentine’s Day, Divya S Iyer IAS opens up on her love that climaxed in her marriage with Congress MLA Sabarinathan.

“Me and Sabarinathan talked and talked about election campaign and fell in love.

We used to share news about the campaign over phone every day. The conversation paved the way for love.

I had come to Thiruvananthapuram just six month before. First, we talked about an issue in the Adivasi region. After talking for a while we felt that we followed similar ideologies.

It was the time when I was away from my hometown and house.

That day when we talked for a long time… may be then he felt like marrying me.

There was not anything like formal proposal. Still, it was Sabari who first asked me: “Will you marry me?”. There were parallels between us in our interests towards music and acting. Usually, when we start talking to a stranger, we ask him about his favourite book, song and other such things. When we shared those details also, we found that were perfect match at intellectual level also.

During this Valentine’s Day (February 14, 2020), the couple has this piece of advice to people who are in love: “Love your partner, Understand each other, if your partner has a different ideology, give them the freedom to express their thoughts…”
