Pathanamthitta Collector performs as Uttaran's wife in Kathakali

PATHANAMTHITTA: Pathanamthitta District Collector Divya S Iyer on Saturday enthralled the audience with her Kathakali performance as Uttaran's wife. Divya S Iyer performed Kathakali in connection with the inauguration of students' Kathakali clubs started in schools under the auspices of the District Kathakali Club.

The collector played the role of one of the two wives of Prince Uttaran of Virata in the lasya dance scene involving Uttaran and his wives in Irayimman Thambi's Uttaraswayamvaram Kathakali.

The plot revolves around the woes of one wife when Uttaran approaches the other wife and his flirtation with both wives. The Collector, who practiced Kathakali earlier, had trained for ten days for Uttaraswayamvaram Kathakali.

Kathakali trainers Kalamandalam Vishnumon and Kalamandalam Vishakh said that the Collector's performance was amazing and that she has an innate talent for Kathakali acting. It was Vishakh who played the role of Uttaran.
