Death was announced only after four hrs; last rites held as per WHO's instructions

KOCHI: Kerala’s first Covid death has in fact shocked Malayalis across the state. The 69 year old Chullikkal native succumbed to the disease on Saturday morning.

Along with the Chullikkal native, 15 persons had been admitted to Ernakulam Medical college but he was a high risk patient.

The WHO had considered him as a high-risk patient as he was a Corona patient as well as a heart-patient.

He had been keeping unwell ever since he was admitted to the Isolation Ward of the Kalamassery Medical College hospital on March 22. In between, his respiratory disease worsened after which he was shifted to the Isolation ward and put on ventilator.

However he died at around 8 am.

The district administration announced his death after four hours and after completing all procedures according to the protocol.
The last rites were held as per the instructions of the WHO.
