ALAPPUZHA: The Ambalapuzha police on Sunday registered a case against opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala and 20 other Congress leaders for violating lockdown restrictions by staging a protest at Thottappally in Alappuzha district.

The Congress leaders including Chennithala had attended a relay satyagraha against mineral sand mining in the region. It is learnt that the opposition leader and others have been booked under the Kerala Epidemic Disease Ordinance 2020 and sections 188 and 269of the Indian Penal Code.

Meanwhile, the CPI too has come up against the mineral sand mining in the region. According to the CPI, the sand mining process in the name of flood recovery work is unscientific and is of no use to the safety of Kuttanad.
