Rajamala landslide: Search is on for the second day; the death toll reaches 26

MUNNAR: Munnar: Six bodies were recovered from Pettimudy in Rajamala of Idukki district during the second day of the rescue operation in the place hit by a massive landslide on Friday. With this, the death toll in the disaster touched 26.

MP Dean Kuriakose is overseeing, who supervises the rescue operation in the area.

58-member National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team is heading the rescue operation. A doctors’ team is also camping at Pettimudy. About forty persons are yet be found out. 18 persons have been rescued.

By the way, the threat of heavy rain and another landslide disaster still pervading in the area.

Among the missing there is also former Munnar panchayat member Anantha Sivan. All 21 member’s Anatha Sivan’s family are still missing. Search is on for them in the nearby river.

Power Minister M M Mani has said that intense search is going on for people who had gone missing in Pettilama calamity. The search is based on the list given by the Tata company and panchayat.
