KOCHI: A petition has been filed in the Kerala High Court seeking the closure of Karipur international airport until it is ensured that domestic and international air regulations are complied with. The petition was filed by advocate Yeshwanth Shenoy in the backdrop of the plane crash that took place at the airport on August 7.
The petitioner has sought an inquiry to check whether the runway was constructed by violating safety norms. Shenoy has also sought a CBI investigation into the plane crash that resulted in the death of 19 people. The petition will be considered by a single judge bench next week. Earlier, the DGCA had suspended the operation of wide-body aircraft at the airport.
