KOCHI: In the case filed by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the gold smuggling case, accused Swapna Suresh has been denied bail.
The bail plea was rejected by Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court on Friday.

The ED submitted in the court that Swapna had given them the statement that she had role in the gold smuggling case and citing this, the court rejected the bail plea and observed that there was prima facie evidence against her as she had confessed to her role.

Highly influential persons in the country and abroad were part of the smuggling cartel and hence, their connections with bigwigs should be probed, the court instructed.

The ED had pleaded in the court not to grant bail, saying that it required more time to probe her deals with Sivasankar and question more accused.

Without rejecting the ED’s arguments that money in the locker is black money, the court said it was the liability of Swapna to prove otherwise.
