Kuvi, the orphaned pet dog at Pettimudi, will now be part of the police force

KOLLAM: The pet dog Kuvi, who helped rescue workers find out the body of her mistress Dhanushka from the landslide-struck Pettumudi, will now be absorbed into Kerala police squad.

Kuvi’s gesture that had attracted international attention. She is today hailed as a role model of the strong bond between man and dog.

Kuvi had wandered for days all across the calamity-hit terrain with a whimper, searching of her playmate. And she finally came and rested at the place where Dhanushka’s body was lying hidden under a pile of debris and slush.

Kuvi who was lying there exhausted and traumatised was spotted by district dog squad trainer and Civil police officer Ajith Madhavan.

He didn’t want to leave her alone there and expressed his willingness to adopt. Soon departmental procedures followed, which came out in favour of his wish.

Moreover, there was a decision to absorb Kuvi into the police dog squad.

The outer world came to know about Kuvi’s story after Idukki PRD informed the media. She soon won an esteemed place in the hearts of Malayalis and millions all over the world.

Today (August 22) people representatives of Pettimudi and officials gave an emotional farewell to Kuvi, who was taken away by Ajith in the police van.

After some days, she may return to this place with another mission… as a member of the police squad.
