Gold smuggling case: Raid in Coimbatore; gold merchant in custody

COIMBATORE: The NIA has taken into custody a gold merchant in Coimbatore in connection with the gold smuggling at the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. Nanda Kumar of Pavizham Veedhi in Coimbatore was taken into custody. The NIA suspect that the gold smuggled via Thiruvananthapuram Airport had reached him.

A four-member team led by DSP Shoukath Ali had raided his house this morning.

Soon after the raid, Nanda Kumar was taken to NIA office at Race Course in Coimbatore for more interrogation.

His neighbours told NIA that he became rich all of a sudden. The NIA suspect that he may have become rich via gold smuggling.
