THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Manju Warrier, the lady superstar of Malayalam films, is all set to foray into politics. It has been hinted that she will campaign for the congress party in the coming Lok Sabha polls. Unconfirmed reports say that the actress had held talks with the top leadership of the congress. But neither the congress leadership nor the actress has officially confirmed the news.
Instead of fielding her in the polls, the party is planning to make her active in electioneering. The calculation is that this unexpected move would be a severe blow to other parties at a time when the Lok Sabha polls are barely three months away. Her popularity increased when she spoke for the actress who was attacked and stood with her.
She has a major role in the formation of Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) challenging Association of Malayalam Movies’ Artistes (AMMA). She is one of the most admired actresses in the Malayalam film industry. This factor is sure to benefit the congress in the polls. Her popularity had gained a lot of attention during Kerala floods.
Manju in the beginning had supported Women Wall, organised by the state government but withdrew from it later. She backtracked explaining that she was unaware of the political colour the event has mustered. She thought it was an initiative of the government in support of women without being aware of the political colour. She was the brand ambassador of She Taxi, introduced by the previous UDF Government.
