BHOPAL: The BJP is leading in 18 of the 28 Assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh where bypolls were held, while the Congress is ahead in eight and the BSP in two, trends show, indicating that the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government is set to hold a comfortable majority.
In Gujarat, the BJP is leading in six seats, while Congress is ahead in two. The saffron party has an advantage in Uttar Pradesh too, leading in five seats, while the Samajwadi Party is ahead in two.
The counting of votes for bypolls to 58 Assembly seats across 11 states began at 8 am on Tuesday, 10 November, along with the counting for the Bihar Assembly elections.

The states where the elections were held are Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Odisha, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh.
Early trends for the bypolls in Madhya Pradesh show the BJP ahead in nine seats, while the Congress is behind with a lead in four.
The saffron party also has an advantage in other states, leading in five seats in Gujarat, four in UP and both the seats in Karnataka, according to the CNN-News18 tally.
