ALAPPUZHA: Alappuzha native Rejani V, who underwent chemotherapy after a wrong diagnosis of cancer, has recently hit the news by contesting in the upcoming local body election as an NDA candidate. Though Rejani and her family members were strong supporters of CPM, they were forced to leave the party as the government failed to fulfil its promise of providing her with a compensation of Rs 10 lakh and a job. She also said that the authorities are yet to take action against the culprits who were responsible for her plight.
In February 2019, Rajani, a native of Kudassanad, underwent chemo several times at the Kottayam Medical College Hospital on the basis of a false report from a private lab. Upon performing a detailed examination, the doctors realized that she was not affected by cancer.
Despite the Chief Minister and the Health Minister announcing that strong action would be taken against the private lab responsible for the erroneous treatment and that the government would adopt the family of Rejani, nothing happened. Following this, she and her family went on a hunger strike in front of the Mavelikkara taluk office and the BJP supported the protest.
She received Rs 3 lakh from the government but there was no action after that. With this, the whole family joined the BJP last month. Rejani, who is now suffering from severe diabetes as a side effect of chemotherapy, is determined to fight against the authorities for her present condition. She will be contesting in Bharanikavu block panchayat from Palamel block division.
