NEW DELHI: CPM central leadership rectifies state government over the amendments in Kerala police act. Party general secretary Sitaram Yechury said that the government will reconsider the controversial ordinance. All concerns will be addressed. Yechury said the party’s stand was made clear before the parliament earlier.
“The way this ordinance was implemented is unacceptable. This bill will be reconsidered. All allegations raised against the police act will be considered. Measures including withdrawing ordinance will be considered. More information in this regard will be received from the Kerala government,” Yechury said.
Even after widespread criticism and BJP and RSP approaching high court against the controversial amendment, CPM state leadership was silent over the issue. The party’s central leadership’s intervention comes in the wake of this.
CPM central leadership has taken a strong stand against the controversial section 66 A in IT act. After a detailed discussion in the party’s central committee, the central leadership has decided not to support any legislation which encroaches upon individual liberty, freedom of expression and fundamental rights.
Now, the major criticism that rised against the party is that its state unit in Kerala has given nod for legislation which is in clear violation of the party’s earlier stand to oppose any law which hampers individual liberty. That is why, the party secretary, Yechury himself opined openly against the amendment opposing state CPM and the government.
